Bicycle Puncture Repair

  1. Turn bike upside down
  2. BACK WHEEL: Change gears to smallest cogs
  3. Loosen brakes
  4. Loosen wheel nut, handle side only
  5. BACK WHEEL: Pull derailleur backwards
  6. Lift wheel out
  7. Take cap off/unscrew pin, let remaining air out
  8. Tyre leaver underneath opposite valve, attach to spoke
  9. Second lever work and track around until tyre is off
  10. Remove valve nut, push valve through on the tyre lever side
  11. Remove inner tube
  12. Rag wipe around tyre, check for glass
  13. Check wheel, spokes, tape
  14. New inner tube, inflate a little
  15. Valve back through into tyre, harder side
  16. Hands only, feed the inner tube into the tyre
  17. Start at the valve, ensure tyre is in deeply
  18. Work your way round the tyre.
  19. Before the last difficult bit, push the valve into the rim, squeeze the tire together, then push in deeply. With the other hand, thumb the tyre on the opposite side in
  20. Push around to see nothing is pinched, ensure the valve is perpendicular
  21. Inflate the tube fully to the indicated pressure
  22. Valve nut!
  23. Tighten valve, put on dust cap
  24. Wheel back onto bike, ensure it's pointing the right direction
  25. Tighten wheel nut, handle only
  26. Tighten brakes
